StaticBox Webchat launched

StaticBox has launched it's own Web IRC client.  This client is based on the excellent Qwebirc client, and is accessible at webchat.staticbox.net.

We recommend switching to this client, as we may choose to ban Mibbit on July 3 due to allegations of datamining and nonconsensual logging.  On StaticBox, user privacy is paramount, and these allegations are concerning to us.  As a result, we may be forced to block Mibbit connections in order to ensure that our network guidelines are enforced.  Terms and conditions to ensure retained Mibbit connections have been communicated to the Mibbit service operators, and are non-negotiable.

The new web IRC client is not as old as Mibbit, and probably has bugs, but the author of Qwebirc is happy to work with us to resolve these problems, should they arise.  Please report those bugs to #staticbox, or as a comment to this post, and we will try to get them corrected.  We are also aware that the web client has the limitation that it is restricted to StaticBox, but this is intentional, and we apologize for the inconvenience, but that will not be changed at this time.  However, in exchange, you get an ad-free chat experience, and a web client that has been certified by StaticBox operators to be within network guidelines when in use.

How to switch from Mibbit to StaticBox Webchat if you use a Mibbit Widget

Find the code in the website, such as:

<center>
<iframe style="width: 700px; height: 350px; border: 0;"
    src="http://widget.mibbit.com/?server=irc.dereferenced.org&channel=%23staticbox&noServerNotices=true&noServerMotd=true&autoConnect=true">
</iframe>
</center>

Replace it with:

<center>
<iframe style="width: 700px; height: 350px; border: 0;" src="http://webchat.staticbox.net/?channels=%23staticbox"></iframe>
</center>

This will switch your WebIRC client over to our system.
