StaticBox started out in 2001 as a really small and private network made by a couple of friends. Through time more people started getting interested in us so we decided to open up for public.
Since that day, we started expanding. We like to keep our users happy with the latest ircd and services features available to us. After all, users are the most important factor of a good organized IRC network.
There hasn't been much news to report lately, but hey: no news is good news right?
Well I've tweaked the website a bit, changed a few things here and there and changed the look of the site as well.
I hope you like it, if not feel free to voice your opinions as always.
There should also be a small speed improvement. The response time should be lowered and the site should be a bit quicker to react.
I've opened up the comments section for thise article, feel free to reply.
As of now Staticbox offers channel statistics.
We are using the Perl IRC Statistics generator (PISG) to generate our stats. They can be customized to your demands if needed.
The stats are updated every half hour.
You will also get access to the bot in order for you to add custom users input to the userlist like your picture, website, sex, aliasses, and more.
Simply visit the stats website (http://stats.staticbox.net) or drop by in #staticbox and ask for your channel to be added.
We have rolled out charybdis 3.3 on the network with server-side MLOCK enforcement. What this means is that instead of ChanServ reverting changes in it's MLOCK, the modechanges are simply not accepted to begin with. For example, doing /mode #opers -t yields the following:
15:29:56 [staticbox] >> Server: #opers t inst MODE cannot be set due to channel having an active MLOCK restriction policy
Please let us know if you have any questions by joining #help or #staticbox and have a nice winter.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but are blocking connections from Shellium and several other public access systems at this time due to abuse problems. If you would like to use StaticBox, please do so from another system.
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of services.staticbox.net, a web interface to the StaticBox services system. It is powered by atheme-web, which is fully open-source (despite being developed for this network to use). Try it today, and let us know if there is anything you would like to see added!
As of April 6, we have joined the Janus metanetwork. Note that this is a beta thing at the moment, and we might choose to not offer it in the future depending on how things go. Here's the information on that, contributed by stitch.
So what is “janus” anyway?
Janus is an inter-network channel linker for IRC. Networks that participate in the Janus network have the ability to “share” channels with other networks. Shared channels will appear like any other normal channel on the network.
We now have a server in Brisbane, Australia. It's server name is irc.staticbox.net.au and has no connection restrictions. It is administrated by nenolod and Trystan and runs the latest charybdis 3.1.
